Earthquake in Chile
On Saturday, February 27th 2010, an earthquake erupted in Chile. The earthquake had an 8.8 magnitude and had 76 aftershocks of a 4.9 magnitude. Chile is located in South America and is a Spanish-speaking country. The earthquake occurred in Chile's second largest city called Concepcion. So far, this earthquake has killed more than 700 people. It has destroyed or damaged more than one million homes. Chile's earthquake is one of the most powerful earthquakes in the century. More than 2 million people were affected by the quake. The Chilean president, Michelle Bachelet, has asked for international aid. I wasn't really surprised that the earthquake had occurred because I read that Coastal Chile has a history of deadly earthquakes in which 13 of the earthquakes had a magnitude of 7.0 or higher.A comparison of the Chile earthquake to the Haiti earthquake shows that Chile's earthquake was far more stronger than Haiti's. Chile was more wealthier and better prepared than Haiti. Haiti had weak buildings but Chile didn't.
